Neuropathy Care at Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center

If you've ever had to deal with an electronic device that suffers from bad wiring, then you know how any machine can go haywire from faulty internal communications. The same holds true for the "writing" of the human body. Nerve impingement, neurological damage, or systemic disorders can lead to all kinds of odd sensations (or lack of sensation), a problem known as neuropathy. The good news is that you can address your neuropathy symptoms without simply drugging your nervous system. Here at Duben Holistic Chiropractic center, we offer chiropractic adjustment and other treatment methods to get your nerves working more normally.

The Many Causes of Neuropathy

The term "neuropathy" broadly applies to any dysfunction of a nerve or nerve branch that produces noticeable, uncomfortable symptoms. These symptoms typically include inexplicable shooting pains, tingling or "pins and needles" sensations, and partial or total numbness in the body part served by the affected nerve tissue. Weakness or loss of muscle control may accompany neuropathy discomfort.

Anything that inhibits normal nerve function can cause neuropathy. In many cases, alcoholism or diseases such as diabetes destroy nerve cells, reducing nerve function. An acute injury that actually crushes a nerve can also cause long-lasting neuropathy. But one of the most common causes of neuropathy is compression of the nerve tissue from a herniated/bulging disc, degenerative changes in the spinal bones, or abnormalities in spinal alignment and posture. Because the nervous system branches out from the spinal cord and major nerve roots to all the lesser nerves and nerve branches, the actual point of dysfunction may be much higher up in this "tree" than the symptoms might imply. For example, the leg pain of sciatica (impingement of the sciatic nerve roots) may originate from the base of the spine, while the arm/hand symptoms of cervical radiculopathy may originate from a pinched nerve in the neck.

Non-Pharmaceutical Treatment From Your Thousand Oaks Chiropractor

Your Thousand Oaks chiropractor at Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center can treat your neuropathy at the source -- the damaged or dysfunctional nerve tissue itself. Chiropractic adjustment and spinal decompression therapy can take pressure off of the nerve or nerve root, restoring the flow of communication. Nutritional counseling can address neuropathy caused by dietary imbalances or systemic disorders, while laser therapy can help injured nerves heal themselves. We will create a holistic treatment plan just for you.
