It can also cause other issues, including debilitating headaches. Our chiropractors in Westlake Village have gathered some of the common questions that we run into from our patients regarding neck pain.
Why does my neck hurt?
Neck pain can be caused by a variety of things. Accidents are the most common cause of neck pain. When your body has been hit or jarred, it can cause torn muscles in the neck, herniated discs, and more. Other reasons for neck pain are poor posture and misalignment. These issues can cause an unnatural amount of weight distribution and chronic strain in and around the neck. You may also have bulging discs or a degenerative disorder that impacts the nerve roots.
What is text neck?
Text neck is a term that has come about in the last few years. It refers to pain caused by constantly looking down, which can strain your muscles and put an unnatural strain on the spine. Such a condition is commonly associated with looking down at a phone, tablet, or laptop. However, it can occur with any activity where you spend extended amounts of time looking down.
How can I get rid of my neck pain at home?
It can be difficult to treat neck pain at home, at least in the long term. However, there are some things you can do to ease the pain temporarily. Stretching can often provide some level of relief. If you fall or injure yourself, put an ice pack on the area to reduce the inflammation. A day or two later, switch to a warm pack to help relax the muscles and improve blood flow to the injured area.
