How To Prevent Back Pain While Working From Home

If you have recently transitioned from commuting to an office each day to working from home, you may be experiencing some unexpected back pain. While traditional offices are equipped with proper chairs and desks, you may not have perfected your work-from-home situation. Keep these tips in mind to prevent back pain while working at home. If you do experience aches and pains during your workday and live near Westlake Village, give our team at Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center a call.

Set Up Your Workspace

When using your home computer, you must ensure your computer screen is properly positioned. To ensure the best posture, place your computer screen so that it is at an arm’s length from your eyes with the top of the screen at eye level. This will prevent you from spending the day with your neck bent, which can often lead to back pain.

Take Breaks and Stretch

When transitioning to working from home, many people notice they do not stand up or move around as much as they might in a traditional office. A sedentary day of focusing on a computer screen is a recipe for back pain. Set a timer to ring at the start of each hour. When the timer goes off, it is time to stand up. Take a break to refill your water bottle or walk around your home. End the break with stretches. Without raising your shoulders, squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold for five seconds before releasing. Repeat the stretch 20 times before restarting your work.
